John

John has a post-graduate certificate in Film Scoring from UCLA, a degree in Jazz Studies; vocal performance from the University of Toronto, and a diploma in Music Composition from MacEwan University.

He is on the faculty at MacEwan University in Edmonton where he teaches music classes, composition, and vocal ensembles. John’s groups have been featured at regional and national festivals, performing jazz and contemporary genres.

Aside from conducting, John is in demand as a clinician, private instructor, composer/arranger, and performer. He has performed across North America as a jazz artist and contemporary vocalist, lending his voice to numerous ensembles and studio sessions. His choral and band compositions and arrangements have been heard on stages in North America, Europe, and Southern Africa.

John’s compositions have been heard in television, independent films, and video games; several of his works have been recorded into music videos.

He has most recently scored Vital Bonds, an episode of CBC’s The Nature Of Things for which he has won a Rosie Award (AMPIA) in the category of Best Original Musical Score (Non-Fiction Over 30 Minutes).
